After a 14 year hiatus (excluding last year’s Lollapallooza appearance) ,
Chris Cornell and
Matt Cameron were able to bring bassist
Ben Shepherd & guitarist
Kim Thayil out of hiding (in Seattle) to reform one of the greatest rock bands of my generation;
Soungarden. The last time I saw
Soundgarden play live was at the
1995 Reading festival in England. The last time I saw Ben & Kim in person was in Barrie, Ontario in 1994. Back then
Soundgarden stayed at 3 star motel in Barrie, Ontario. This past week,
Soundgarden arrived at an upscale boutique hotel in
Toronto a few days ahead of their Saturday night concert to stage a few days of rehearsals at
The Molson Ampitheater. I was fortunate to once again see Ben & Kim in person and after a 16 year wait and have them sign their classic album “Superunknown”
The band was in good spirits in the days leading up to the first gig in over a decade, which went off like the surreal lightning in the backdrop of Lake Ontario.
